{"id":362,"date":"2016-06-18T09:56:46","date_gmt":"2016-06-18T09:56:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/eset-blog.aist.fun\/security-professionals-extremely-concerned-by-cybercrime-threat\/"},"modified":"2019-05-29T12:33:50","modified_gmt":"2019-05-29T12:33:50","slug":"security-professionals-extremely-concerned-by-cybercrime-threat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.eset.ee\/et\/en\/2016\/06\/18\/security-professionals-extremely-concerned-by-cybercrime-threat\/","title":{"rendered":"Security professionals \u2018extremely concerned\u2019 by cybercrime threat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wls-paragraph\">Security professionals are more concerned than ever by the threat of cybercrime, according to new poll.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wls-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blackhat.com\/docs\/us-16\/2016-Black-Hat-Attendee-Survey.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Black Hat Attendee Survey 2016<\/a> \u2013 the second of its kind \u2013&nbsp;found that 72% of cyber experts anticipate having to deal with a major data breach over the next year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wls-paragraph\">This view is in response to the growing incidences of cybercrime, most notably data breaches.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wls-paragraph\">Against this backdrop, one of the main concerns of security professionals is the lack of resources at their disposal.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"block_quote_right\">\u201cPerhaps the most important conclusion we can draw from the survey is that the pressures on security professionals are not letting up.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wls-paragraph\">The survey showed, for example, that 74% of respondents are of the opinion that there is a staff shortage, meaning they feel ill-equipped to appropriately defend their organizations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wls-paragraph\">When it comes to concerns over particular cyberthreats, social engineering was cited as the main cause of unease (43%).<\/p>\n<p class=\"wls-paragraph\">In terms of relatively newer threats, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.welivesecurity.com\/2016\/03\/31\/ransomware-threat-highlights-why-backing-up-data-is-essential\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ransomware<\/a> was described as the chief concern, with 37% of respondents saying the \u2018rapid\u2019 increase in its use over the last 12 months is troubling.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wls-paragraph\">\u201cPerhaps the most important conclusion we can draw from the survey is that the pressures on security professionals are not letting up,\u201d the authors noted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wls-paragraph\">\u201cIn fact, they are intensifying. In nearly every question and category, Black Hat attendees indicated that their environments are more at risk this year than they were last year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wls-paragraph\">In related news, KPMG recently released a new report highlighting <a href=\"http:\/\/www.welivesecurity.com\/2016\/07\/27\/cyberattacks-affect-nearly-every-single-company\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the growing threat posed by cybercrime<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wls-paragraph\">Eight in every ten cybersecurity executives revealed that their organization had experienced an attack.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Security professionals are more concerned than ever by the threat of cybercrime, according to new poll.
